Audition is a comprehensive toolset that includes multitrack, waveform, and spectral display for creating, mixing, editing, and restoring audio content. This powerful audio workstation is designed to accelerate video production workflows and audio finishing — and deliver a polished mix with pristine sound.

Changing the Sample Rate Using Adobe Audition. Instructions to use Adobe audition to change the sample rate of a.wav file are as follows: Open Adobe audition and the file to be edited. Select ‘Edit’, ‘Convert sample type’ and ‘48000 Hz’ (as shown in fig 1). Fig 1: Changing the sample rate. Selecting a signal of. Is it possible to the change the playback speed in Adobe Audition during editing and have it correct the pitch so only the tempo changes. For editing a podcast, I want to listen faster than real time without doing any destructive edits. Just using J, K and L are ok but the higher pitch makes it difficult to listen to. Jul 15, 2012 To get the value you need go to your original session and change the timeline/ruler to show samples Make a note of the sample value you want the session length to be and then enter that value into your edited sesx file. So 2 minutes at 44.1k would be something like 120. 44100 = 5292000 samples Obviously different for 48k etc. Audition’s new REMIX tool analyzes your song files, identifying hundreds of loops, transitions, and important segments, and then allows you to quickly remix to any duration. While it’s default settings are often nothing short of miraculous, several parameters allow editors to dial in an ideal new arrangement.
These instructions explain how to use Adobe Audition to prepare a sound to calculate the sound quality metrics using the MATLAB codes provided.Changing the Sample Rate Using Adobe Audition
Instructions to use Adobe audition to change the sample rate of a .wav file are as follows:
*Open Adobe audition and the file to be edited.
*Select ‘>Edit’, ‘>Convert sample type’ and ‘>48000 Hz’ (as shown in fig 1).
*Save the file.
Fig 1: Changing the sample rateSelecting a signal of length n samples Using Adobe Audition
The sample to be analysed can be saved as a separate .wav file using Adobe audition:
*Open Adobe audition and the file to be edited.
*For monaural sounds only one channel of the sound needs to be selected the left channel can be selected by ensuring the cursor is in the top of the window when making the selection or the right channel can be selected by ensuring the cursor is in the bottom of the window when making the selection (marked with red boxes in the fig 2). For binaural sounds each channel need to be selected and saved to two separate .wav files. A binaural correction needs to be applied (see below) and values of the metrics for each channel should be calculated.
Fig 2: Selecting a single channel for monaural analysis of the sound
*The length of the signal selected should be a multiple of (n x 28) samples to get the best performance from the metric calculators provided. Right clicking on the x-axis and selecting the option ‘>display time format’ and ‘>samples’ will display the time axis in number of samples to check this. The table on the bottom right of the display (marked with a red box in fig 3) shows the start point, end point, and length of the selected portion.
Fig 3: Displaying the time format in samples
*The sample to be analysed should be highlighted and ‘>Edit’, ‘>Copy to New’ selected. The new file created can then be saved under a different name.Applying the Binaural Correction Using Adobe Audition
*Open Adobe audition and the file to be edited.
*A correction can be applied by selecting ‘>Effects’ ‘>Filters’ and ‘>Graphic Equaliser’ from the drop down menus. The relevant correction (usually either a ‘diffuse’ or ‘free field’ correction) can then be added as 30 third-octave band values (see fig 4).
Fig 4: Adding the ‘free field’ HATS correction to the binaural signal
*For binaural sounds each channel need to be selected and saved to two separate .wav files. The left channel can be selected by ensuring the cursor is in the top of the window when making the selection or the right channel can be selected by ensuring the cursor is in the bottom of the window when making the selection (marked with red boxes in the fig 2). Values of the metrics for each channel should be calculated.
So this is a simple guide on how to get started with adobe audition. I’ll be going over how to import you files, using waveform and multitrack as well as exporting your file ready for use!
*When first opening Adobe you should see a screen like this:
On the top left section you can see it has two options waveform and multitrack. Wave form if for your individual audio files, this is were you can edit them properly and ensure the audios ok. Once you’ve done this you simply click multitrack and drag your audio files over onto the slots available (i’ll show this in more depth soon).
2. So when you import your audio you need to go to file – import – file. This will take you to your documents, find the file/ files you want and press ok. they should appear on the screen like this:
3. When you click on each individual file on the right hand side you’ll see your ‘wave’ and this is were you can edit. (i’ll show a few ways of editing your audio in another guide)
4. So once you’ve edited your audio you want to put it into multi track when you click multi track it’ll ask you a few questions, I tend not to change anything other than the name of the session and were I want it to be saved. Press ok, and you’ll get this:
You can see that your audio files are still on the left hand side so all you have to do it drag it in the different slots you can see here. You can drag them all onto the same slot, but I tend to use 2 or 3 different once as one, it makes it more organised and clear, it also gives you more control.
Remember, if your using a few different slots, not to put one underneath the other, as the audio files will play at the same time, remember it’s a sequence and so as one ends the next begins. Like this:
4. So once you’ve created your audio and are happy with it, you’ll need to save it. If you go to file save as it will save as an adobe audition file. This will be unusable in anything other than audition. So to make the file available to upload to websites etc. you need to export it. This is simply doing this:
*File – export – mix down – entire sessionAdobe Audition Change Duration Video
This will give you a screen like this:Adobe Audition Change Duration Chrome
Here you can change the name of your file, chose were it is saved and more importantly the format of your file. I most often use ‘mp3’ but you need to see what is relevant for your project.Adobe Audition Change Duration Music
Once this is done your finished and your file will be saved in your chosen place. You can still go back an edit as long as you’ve also saved it as an adobe audition file, then complete the final steps again to export it.
